President appoints Committee to provide relief for those affected by inclement weather

A committee led by secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga has been appointed to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the prevailing extreme weather.

The commanders and chiefs of Defence staff of tri forces have been appointed as other members of the committee by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

President’s Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake stated that the President has directed the Treasury to release necessary funds for the emergency relief.

The president has also instructed area politicians to keep politics aside and accelerate relief assistance to the affected people.

Meanwhile issuing a notice today, UNP stated that all Sri Lankan should get together to provide necessary relief to the affected people in the weather-hit areas.

The UNP also pointed out in its notice the importance of giving solutions to cushion the damages to the harvest that have already happened to the farmers in the North Central, the Eastern, the North Western and the Northern provinces.
