Death toll rises to 17 due to inclement weather

Due to the prevailing inclement weather, the death toll has risen to 17.

11 deaths among the deceased have been reported from Badulla District.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that another 12 have been reported missing while the total number of persons affected amounts to 989 thousand 214.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department states that they have been able to control the capacity of the 73 major reservoirs by now.

However, 63 major reservoirs and 160 medium size reservoirs continue to spill over.
