Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama who is accused of the forced removal of three suspects from police custody was given bail today when he was produced before the Baddegama Magistrate.

Police had arrested the three suspects in connection with the recent arson attack on a stage set up for common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s election rally in Wanduramba.

The Deputy Minister was released on two personal bails amounting to Rs. 500,000 each and banned him from entering eight police divisions in the Baddegama judicial area.

The Magistrate also ordered him to surrender his passport.

Despite an arrest warrant order was issued on him by the Baddegama Magistrate, Muthuhettigama left for Singapore on last Friday using the VVIP gate at the Katunayake International Airport.

However, Muthuhettigama was arrested on his arrival at the Katunayake International Airport yesterday and produced before the Negombo Magistrate.

Deputy Minister’s driver was also released on a personal bail amounting to one hundred thousand rupees.

The three suspects accused of the arson attack on common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s election stage were also released on two personal bails amounting to Rs. 500,000 each.

Later Baddegama Magistrate Chandima Edirimanne fixed the next hearing of the case for January 26 next year.

Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama who is accused of forced removal of 3 suspects arrested in connection with the recent arson attack on a stage set up for common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s election rally in Wanduramba was given bail today.

The Deputy Minister was released on 2 personal bails amounting to 500 thousand rupees each and banned him from entering 8 police divisions in the Baddegama judicial area.

The Magistrate also ordered him to surrender his passport.

Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama produced before Baddegama Court

Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama has been produced before the Baddegama Magistrate today.

Following the arrest of Muthuhettigama on his arrival at the Katunayake International Airport yesterday, police produced him before the Negombo Magistrate who later remanded him until today.

Deputy Minister Muthuhettigama has been charged for forced removal of 3 suspects who were arrested in connection with the recent arson attack on a stage set up for common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s election rally in Wanduramba.

The 3 suspects, who were supporters of the deputy minister and 3 of his security men were also arrested by police later.

However, Baddegama Magistrate ordered to arrest the deputy minister and his driver.

Despite the arrest warrant on him, the deputy minister left for Singapore on last Friday using the VIP gate of the Katunayake International Airport.

Our correspondent stated that the driver of the deputy minister was also produced before the court along with the deputy minister.
