A man self immolates in front of the Vihara Maha devi park.
A 72-year-old person has self-immolated in front of the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, this morning.
According to the hospital sources, the condition of the person who self-immolated is critical.
A hospital spokesman told our news team that he is currently receiving treatment in Ward number 72 at the Colombo National Hospital.
The person has self-immolated in front of Vihara-maha-devi Park in Colombo at 5.30 this morning, after pouring kerosene oil on himself.
A three wheel driver and few others who passed the location at the time doused the fire and took the victim to the Colombo National Hospital.
The victim is Jayasuriya Arachchige Jinadasa Perera, a 72 year old resident of Pannipitiya, Kottawa area.
A spokesman at Cinnamon Gardens Police stated that they have sent officers to the hospital to record a statement from the victim and they are currently taking measures to seek the three wheel driver who brought the victim to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the incident was brought to light during the media briefing convened at the Opposition Leader’s office which was held with the participation of party leaders.
According to Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena, it was reported that a person had self immolated in front of Viharamahadevi Park to protest against the current government
The Common candidate extended his deepest condolences regarding the incident during the media briefing.
