Possible annulment of NCP to be avoided
The North Central Provincial Council Chief Secretary H.M.R.B. Herath said that the next council session date has been advanced from January 10 to January 9.
The decision has been taken after consulting the provincial governor to avoid the annulment of the council automatically as a provincial council cannot be adjourned more than 60 days.
Sending a letter to provincial governor Karunarathna Divulgane, North Central Provincial Council UNP member Aruna Buddhika Gunasekera quoted the Provincial Council Constitution, stating that a Provincial council, since its adjournment date, it should be recalled within 60 days, or else it is automatically become null and void.
The North Central Provincial council was adjourned on November 10 and declared to be recalled on January 10.
Gunasekera stated in his letter to the governor that 61 days would be passed if the North Central Provincial Council is summoned on January 10.
North Central Provincial Council Chief Secretary H.M.R.B. Herath told our news team, the NCPC will be summoned on January 9 accordingly.
