The rainy weather condition experienced in many parts of the island has receded.

However it is significant to report a higher number of dengue cases last year, particularly due to heavy rain in the last days of the year and wet weather throughout the year in general.

The Communicable Diseases Unit stated that 46 thousand 584 cases were reported last year, and 95 of them died of the disease.

The highest number of cases was reported from the Colombo district.

Only 32 thousand 063 cases were reported in 2013, and comparing to the year 2013, 14 thousand 521 cases have been increased last year.

Meanwhile 44 thousand 456 dengue cases were reported in 2012, it was 28 thousand 473 in 2011, and 34 thousand 105 in 2010.

Our news team contacted Director of the Communicable Diseases Unit Dr. Paba Palihawadana to further explained about the increasing trend of Dengue disease.
