Police to use maximum force against polls intimidators; No hesitation to annul the polling station; says Election Commissioner.
The election commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya reiterated today that he would declare the polling null and void if anybody attempts to prevent a voter from casting his or her vote or intimidate a polling representative.
He also said that he has instructed police to use maximum power if somebody arrives in a polling booth and attempts to intimidate in any election related activity.
Addressing a media briefing held today at the Election Secretariat, the election commissioner said that he was 100% confident of holding a free and fair election.
The Election Commissioner also described about the varieties of Identity cards that should be submitted by voters to prove their identity to cast their vote.
Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya further said that a fake vote marking paper is being circulated in the island, therefore said a specimen of a genuine poll marking card has been publicized in today’s newspapers.
At the same time, the commissioner requested respective officials not to distribute disaster relief assistance at least today and tomorrow.
He further said that he decided today not to start counting of votes until all the ballot boxes are brought to the particular centers and safety is ensured in the center.
