Maithripala Sirisena leads the race as per results released so far
According to results released thus far, Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena is ahead after having obtained 2 million 306 Thousand 612 votes which accounts to a percentage of 52.7.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has obtained 2 million 11 thousand 512 votes accounting to a percentage of 45.9.
The election was held in 22 districts of the island which comprise 160 electorates.
Mahinda Rajapaksa won the postal voting in Colombo, and Kalutara while Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena won the postal voting in Gampaha.
Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena also won the postal voting in Kandy, and won the electorates Paathadumbara and Kandy.
Mahinda Rajapaksa won the postal voting in Matale while Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena won the postal voting in Nuwara-eliya.
Mahinda Rajapaksa also won the postal voting in Galle district and managed to secure victory in Balapitiya and Akmeemana electorates while the Common Candidate was victorious in the Galle electorate.
Mahinda Rajapaksa won the postal voting in Matara as well as the electorates namely Devinuwara and Weligama.
The Hambantota district postal voting as well as the electorates Mulkirigala, Beli-aththa and Thissamaharama were won by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena won the postal voting in Jaffna as well as the electorates namely, Kytes, Wadukoddai, Kankasanthurai, Chaavakachcheri, Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
Postal voting of Wanni district as well as the Mullativu electorate were secured by Common Candidate.
The Common Candidate also won the postal voting in Digamadulla and Batticaloa district.
Mutur and Trincomalee electorates of the Trincomalee district were won by the Common Candidate while Seruwila electorate was won by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Postal voting of Puttlam, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts were won by the Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena while Medirigiriya and Polonnaruwa electorates were also won by him.
Badulla district postal voting was secured by Mahinda Rajapaksa while the Badulla seat was won by Common Candidate Sirisena.
Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to secure victory of Moneragala postal voting and the Moneragala electorate.
Postal voting of Ratnapura and Kegalle were also won by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
