JHU states that they were able to change power through non-violent means.

While attending the same media briefing, JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka expressed his views regarding how various communities contributed with their votes to Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena.

While denying the claims that the election was won thanks to the SLMC and TNA without any contribution from the Sinhalese, he added that in 2010, the TNA, SLMC, JVP, Chandrika Bandaranaike and the UNP, supported Sarath Fonseka, but that he could only get 40.15 percent of votes however, this time the common opposition Maithreepala Sirisena received 51.28% ercent of votes, thanks to the coalition.

Meanwhile, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake states that the results of this Presidential Election have proved that public mandate cannot be changed by money or false rumors.

While attending a media briefing convened this evening in Colombo, he said that they have prevented Mahinda Rajapaksa’s anti-democracy operation through a special mechanism.

And added that people have stepped forward to prove that they cannot be misled by lies.
