Synopsis of Election results of the Presidential Election 2015
Regarding the yesterday’s concluded Presidential Election, total registered votes amounted to 105,044,490 votes, out of which total polled votes amounted to 102,264,377 votes with a percentage of 81.52%
Valid votes amounted to 102,123,452 votes with a percentage of 98.85%
Rejected votes amounted to 140,925 votes with a percentage of 1.5%
Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena who obtained 6,217,162 votes with a percentage of 51.28%, out of the valid votes, won the Presidential election and was elected as the New President.
Other main candidate UPFA candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa obtained 5,768,090 votes with a percentage of 47.6% out of total votes.
Apart from the two main candidates, 17 other candidates contested for the Presidential Election.
As per the election results, the third place was taken by Deshapremi Jathika Peramuna representative Ratnayake Arachchige Sirisena.
He obtained 18,174 votes with a percentage of 0.15%
Meanwhile, the fourth place was taken by Attorney-at-law Namal Ajith Rajapaksa who contested from Our National Front obtained 15,726 votes.
The fifth place was taken by the candidate representing United Peace Front Ibrahim Miflar who obtained 14,379 votes.
