Scores of state leaders including Chinese President congratulate new President Maithreepala.
Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his wishes to new President Maithreepala Sirisena.
In his message of congratulations, he stated that Sri Lanka is a trusted ally and partner of China, and that he is looking forward to strengthen the bilateral strategic cooperation.
Scores of state leaders including United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon extended their wishes today.
Elaborating further, UN Secretary General wished the Sri Lankans for the successful conclusion of the country’s presidential election, and welcomed the constitutional transfer of power.
Moreover, US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Singapore President Tony Tan and their Prime Minister Lee Hsieng Loong, Indian Congress party leader Sonia Gandhi as well as the European Union, and the Japanese government congratulated the new President.
Meanwhile, Indian news paper The Hindu stated in their Editorial that they expect India – Sri Lanka ties to be further strengthened under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s purview.
The Hindu referred to the new Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe as a politician with close ties to India.
The new Prime Minister too received messages of congratulations from several countries including India.
