New Chairman of the SLFP is President Maithree: says a group of former Ministers. There is no change in the Chairmanship: says another group of former Ministers.
A group of former SLFP Ministers said yesterday that President Maitripala Sirisena had been elected by the majority as the SLFP Chairman.
However a group of former Ministers said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been re-elected as the SLFP Chairman.
These groups had separately met at President Maitripala Sirisena’s house at Wijerama Mawatha and the Darley Road SLFP headquarters.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa too had come for the Central Committee meeting held at the SLFP headquarters.
However MPs Janaka Bandara Thennakoon, Sarath Amunugama, Piyasena Gamagey, Faisar Mustaapa, S. B. Naavinna, Reginald Cooray, Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa, Jagat Pushpakumara, N. K. D.S.Gunawardhana, Duminda Dissanayake, Nilvalaa Wijesinghe and Athauda Seneviratne and North Western Province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera participated in the media briefing held at President Maitripala Sirisena’s Wijerama house.
Expressing his views on this occasion former Minister Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa said that former Minister Duminda Dissanayake had been elected as the party’s new secretary.
Former Minister Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa said that in addition former Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon was elected as the party’s national organizer and former senior Minister S.B. Navinna was elected as Treasurer.
At a media briefing held yesterday at the SLFP headquarters former Minister Susil Premajayantha said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa received the support of 41 members of the SLFP Central Committee out of the total membership of 53.
Former Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Dinesh Gunawardhana too participated at the media briefing held at the SLFP headquarters yesterday in addition to the former President.
Since SLFP national organizer Basil Rajapaksa has gone to the United States, he was not present at the media briefing held at the Central Committee meeting held yesterday.

Meanwhile, addressing a media brefing held at Presidnet Maithripala Sirisena’s house, Former Minister Dumindha Dissanayaka stated that majority of the central committee are with them.
However, former Minister Nimal Siripala de silva stated that it is wrong to announce that President Maithripala Sirisena has been appointed as the Chairman of the SLFP.
