New+President+assumes+duties.
President Maithripala Sirisena assumed duties at the Presidential Secretariat this morning.

According to our correspondent, the occasion was graced by several former ministers including Niyomal Perera, Lalith Dissanayake, Felix Perera, Dayashritha Thisera, Milroy Fernando and A.R.M.A Cader.

A group of former SLFP Ministers said yesterday that President Maitripala Sirisena had been elected by the majority as the SLFP Chairman.

However MPs Janaka Bandara Thennakoon, Sarath Amunugama, Piyasena Gamagey, Faisar Mustaapa, S. B. Naavinna, Reginald Cooray, Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa, Jagat Pushpakumara, N. K. D.S.Gunawardhana, Duminda Dissanayake, Nilvalaa Wijesinghe and Athauda Seneviratne and North Western Province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera participated in the media briefing held at President Maitripala Sirisena’s Wijerama house.

Expressing his views on this occasion former Minister Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa said that former Minister Duminda Dissanayake had been elected as the party’s new secretary.

Former Minister Vijith Vijeyamuni Soysa said that in addition former Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon was elected as the party’s national organizer and former senior Minister S.B. Navinna was elected as Treasurer.

Meanwhile, Galle District Alliance MP Manusha Nanayakkara pledged his support to Presidnet Maithripala Sirisena today.
