Political leadership should set an example to the state service; says President Maithreepala
President Maithreepala Sirisena says the political leadership should set an example to the state service and the country in order to achieve good governance which is the prime expectation of the common masses.
The President was speaking after assuming duties in his new position this morning at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Speaking further, the president said that new laws should be introduced in order to prevent using public servants in election campaigns.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former ministers Rauff Hakeem, Rishard Badi Udin, Patali Champika Ranawaka, TNA leader R. Sampandan, former deputy ministers P. Digambaram, V. Radha Krishnan and MP Rajiv Wijesinghe also participated.
In addition, former minister Filix Perera, Dayasritha Tissera, deputy ministers Niyomal Perera and Lalith Dissanayake and MP Arundika Fernando also participated in the event.
