Update: Investigation on elephant calf found at MP Sajin Vass' residence

The Department of Wildlife has commenced an investigation concerning an elephant calf discovered at the residence of MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena.

A spokesman at Hikkaduwa Wildlife Office stated that MP Sajin Vass has purchased the elephant calf for Rs. 10 million without a license.

He further said that a helper at the residence has provided him with the relevant documents.

Elephant found at MP Sajin's residence


A group of wildlife officials who raided UPFA MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena's residence at Ambalangoda on Monday discovered the elephant which was kept without relevant documents.

Wildlife officers stated that they found a 10 year old elephant and no one was at the residence except the care takers of the animal at the time of the raid.

However the elephant caretakers had insisted that they had official documents that are necessary to keep the elephant at the residence.

According to this, wildlife officials are inspecting the documents today.
