A meeting between the President and the former President. A pact to hand over SLFP Chairmanship to President Maithree.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has agreed to relinquish the chairmanship of Sri Lanka Freedom Party to current President Maithreepala Sirisena.
SLFP sources stated that a meeting between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and current President Maithreepala Sirisena was held in Colombo last night.
When our news team contacted several senior ministers confirmed the meeting between the two.
However a SLFP parliamentary member group meeting scheduled to be held at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon has been cancelled.
Nevertheless, SLFP central working committee is scheduled to meet in Colombo at 3 pm tomorrow.
A senior party spokesman told our news team that the SLFP executive committee would also meet after the central working committee meeting.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as current President Maithreepala Sirisena is also scheduled to participate in this executive committee meeting.
Sources also stated President Maithreepala Sirisena is scheduled to take over the chairmanship of the party during this executive committee meeting.
