Investigation of Narahenpita light aircraft handed over to CCD
The investigation of the light aircraft found at Narahenpita Economic Centre has been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division.
According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana, the CCD has already recorded statements from several factions.
The light aircraft in question was found in a warehouse at Narahenpita Economic Centre on 13th of this month.
Further investigations revealed that the aircraft was gifted by Veteran Film director Chandran Ratnam to Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the Civil Aviation regulations, no aircraft can fly within the country without a license.
However, information regarding this aircraft’s license or how the aircraft was placed at the warehouse has not been revealed thus far
Meanwhile a resident of Dematapitya at Bangadeniya in Chilaw told our news team that he manufactured this light aircraft for a Sri Lankan engineer and space scientist Ray Wijewardana.
He said that the aircraft named ‘Lihiniya’ carried out test flights in Chilaw, Kalutara and Kegalle.
On a tip-off to Police, this 2-seater light aircraft was found in a store in Narahenpita Economic Center last Tuesday.
Meanwhile film maker Chandran Ratnam stated that he gifted this light aircraft to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa in the month of January last year.
