Former Prime Minister's son banned from leaving country
The court banned the son of former Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Central PC councillor Anuradha Jayaratne who was abscoinding, from leaving the country in connection with the attack of then common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena’s office during the recent presidential election.
Gampola Magistrate Upul Rajakaruna issued the order after considering the facts presented by Gampola Police.
In addition to the PC councillor, Gampola UPFA urban councillor Tharanga Wittachchi, Uda Palatha UPFA PS councillor Sumudu Bandara and another VIP security officer were banned from leaving the country.
The suspects, who arrived in a Defender vehicle on the night of December 31st 2014, have attempted to set fire to the relevant office.
Three police officers who were patrolling the area at the time informed the court that they thwarted the attempt of the suspects by firing shots towards the sky.
Regarding the incident, Gampola UNP co-organizer Samantha Aruna Kumara lodged a complaint at the police, saying that the suspects have caused damage to a board at the premises worth Rs. 40,000.
