Wimal, Dinesh, douglas, Athaulla and left wing parties prepare to act independently in Parliament.
Leaders of UPFA coalitions informed speaker Chamal Rajapaksa that they will act independently in parliament opposition benches.
Except SLFP, other UPFA coalitions are: Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, National Freedom Front, National Congress and EPDP.
Former minister and MEP leader Dinesh Gunawardana further described with regard to the UPFA coalition decision to sit alone in parliament.
Meanwhile Parliament General Secretary Dhammika Dasanayake said that speaker Chamal Rajapaksa has not taken a final decision as yet whether to allow UPFA coalition to sit alone in the opposition benches.
UPFA, except SLFP has 14 seats including 3 from MEP, 2 from NFF, 5 from left winged parties such as Communist party, Samasamaja party and Democratic Leftwing Front, 3 from EPDP and one from A.L.M. Athaullah’s National Congress.
However the main party in parliament, SLFP has 128 seats, and party members Rajitha Senarathna, Duminda Dissanayake, M.K.D.S. Gunawardana, Navin Dissanayake, Nandimitra Ekanayake and Faizer Mustafa hold ministerial portfolios of the present government.
These SLFP ministers are compelled to sit in the government benches when parliament meets tomorrow for the first time after the Presidential election.
Other SLFP MPs led by Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva are scheduled to sit in the Opposition benches.
Meanwhile Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that President Maithreepala Sirisena who was appointed SLFP President would also be appointed as the President of UPFA.
Meanwhile sources close to UPFA stated that the central executive committee of the alliance met this morning.
However our attempt to contact UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha to verify the claim by minister Dissanayake was futile as MP Premajayantha was not available for comment.
However, UPFA coalition leaders were not aware of such an executive meeting of the alliance when they met speaker this morning.
