Eastern Provincial council meets today without a decision about the CM.
A special discussion between the SLMC and the TNA took place in Colombo yesterday with regard to the post of Eastern Province Chief Minister.
A senior SLMC spokesman said that this discussion had been held between his party leader Minister Rauf Hakeem and TNA leader R. Sambandan.
He also said that the discussion ended without a consensus.
The rule in the Eastern Provincial Council comprising 37 councilors had belonged to the UPFA.
That was by winning 22 seats.
The current Chief Minister at the Eastern Provincial Council is Abdul Majeed.
Seven SLMC councilors and three councilors from the All Ceylon People’s Congress led by Minister Rishard Badiuddin had formed part of the UPFA group.
While recently the three councilors of the All Ceylon People’s Congress said that they would act independently at the provincial council, subsequently with Minister Rishard Badiudin supporting President Maitripala Sirisena, they too joined the Opposition.
Similarly with Minister Rauf Hakeem supporting the President, the seven SLMC councilors to joined the Opposition.
Accordingly currently 10 councillors have joined the Opposition in addition to the 11 TNA councilors and the four UNP councilors.
