Parliament meets today after a presidential election: New PM Ranil Wickramasingha addresses the house.
Parliament will convene today for the first time after the Presidential election.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to address the house for the first time.
Leader of the House, Chief Government Whip and New Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva will also address the house.
Leaders of UPFA coalitions informed speaker Chamal Rajapaksa that they will act independently in parliament opposition benches.
Except SLFP, other UPFA coalitions are: Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, National Freedom Front, National Congress and EPDP.
UPFA, except SLFP has 14 seats including 3 from MEP, 2 from NFF, 5 from left winged parties such as Communist party, Samasamaja party and Democratic Leftwing Front, 3 from EPDP and one from A.L.M. Athaullah’s National Congress.
