Gammanpila tells CID that he cannot remember whether CJ was present at Temple trees on the Election Day night.
Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila stated that he cannot recall whether Chief Justice Mohan Peries was present at Temple Trees on the Presidential Election Day night.
Gammanpila expressed these views to the media after giving a statement to the CID this afternoon.
Gammanpila was informed to give a statement with regard to the alleged coup attempt at Temple Trees on the Presidential Election Day night.
Accordingly, the statement was obtained from Gammanpila by ASP Shani Abeysekera for nearly two hours.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera complained to the CID on 17th of this month saying that a military coup had been hatched at Temple Trees to catch state power.
At the same time, the National Executive Council which met yesterday decided to obtain an investigative report on the alleged coup immediately.
Western Provincial Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has accompanied Gammanpila to the CID today.
Our correspondent stated that the Chief Minister Ranatunga remained outside the CID.
Meanwhile addressing a media conference organized by JVP in Colombo today, party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the investigations with regard to the coup should be accelerated.
