Education Ministry has decided to stop charging a fee for renovation of classrooms from students entering Grade one at schools.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told our news team that they will issue the relevant circulars next week.

Schools can charge a nominal fee from students for school’s utility bills such as electricity, telephone and security related activities, however, it is compulsory to obtain the approval from the Education Ministry.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam added that they have decided to allocate funds to meet school expenses from the interim budget which will be presented on the 29th of this month.
