IGP decides to reinstate former Wanduramba Police OIC
IGP has decided to reinstate former Wanduramba Police OIC P.L. Keerthisinghe who resigned from his position due to political intervention, with effect from today.
According to the police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana, the OIC has submitted an appeal to the IGP after resigning, where he was reinstated today as the Wanduramba Police OIC.
Wanduramba Police OIC resigned from his position on the 22nd of last December, following the crisis which occurred at the wake of Presidential Election after former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama forcibly released 3 suspects who were in police custody.
The 3 suspects, who were arrested for allegedly torching the election stage of the then Common Candidate, were forcibly released by the former deputy minister when they were prepared to be taken to Baddegama Magistrate court.
Later the Police followed the former deputy minister and re-arrested the 3 suspects.
However, then Wanduramba Police OIC P.L. Keerthisinghe announced his resignation due to the continuous political interferences.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Minister Muthuhettigama left for Singapore while he was issued with a warrant regarding the case.
Police arrested him on the 28th of last December upon his arrival to the island.
Muthuhettigama was later released on bail after producing before Baddegama Magistrate court.
