Two complaints against former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa and their second son Yoshitha Rajapaksa were made to the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption at the Defence Secretary respectively today.

Former DIG Vass Gunawardana’s wife Sharmali Perera filed a petition against Shiranthi Rajapaksa with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption while the JVP filed another petition against Yoshitha Rajapaksa to the Defence Secretary.

Having filed the petition with the Bribery Commission, former DIG Vass Gunawardana’s wife Sharmali Perera expressed her views to the media.

Speaking to the media, Sharmali Perera said that Shiranthi Rajapaksa was allegedly involved in the illegal gold transaction amounting to 500 million rupees that took place at the Treasury, during her husband Vass Gunawardana was serving as the then DIG.

She said that the then DIG Anura Senanayake and former SLBC Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe intimidated her husband asking him to stop investigation into the racket.

The other petition against Yoshitha Rajapaksa was handed over to Defence Secretary B.M.U.D. Basnayake requesting the Defence Secretary to probe the recruitment procedure which followed to take appoint Yoshitha to Sri Lanka Navy.

Having handed over the petition JVP Western Provincial Councilor Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa expressed his views to the media.

Former DIG Vass Gunawardana’s wife Sharmali Perera filed a petition against former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption this morning.

The petition has asked to probe into an investigation leading to 100 kilograms of gold belonging to the Treasury.

The petitioner says the illegal transaction was taken place during the tenure of her husband Vass Gunawardana was serving as DIG of Colombo North.

Former DIG Vass Gunawardana’s wife Sharmali Perera said that former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s alleged involvements in the illegal gold transaction was disclosed during the investigations.

Later investigations to the illegal gold racket in which former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was involved were abandoned by the then DIG Vass Gunawardana as he was allegedly influenced to stop it by the then Senior DIG Anura Senanayake.

The petition has asked to probe into an investigation leading to 100 kilograms of gold belonging to the Treasury.
