Bus association & authorities begins talk on bus fares
A special discussion to reduce bus fares is being held at the Transport ministry at this moment.
External Transport Ministry media unit stated that Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara, representatives from private bus associations and officers of the Sri Lanka Transport Commission are participating in this discussion.
Lanka Private Bus Owners Association President Gemunu Wijerathna said in a recent media conference that they would agree to reduce the bus fare by 7% and the minimum bus fare by one rupee.
Deputy General Manager of Sri Lanka Transport Board Nimal Anesley told our news team that SLTB bus fare would also be reduced according to the recent fuel price reduction.
Meanwhile the strike launched by Chilaw Colombo private bus owners last night is still continuing.
The strike was launched after a driver and a conductor of a Vavuniya Colombo Semi luxury bus assaulted a private bus driver serving on the Chilaw Colombo route.
Bus owners on the Chilaw Puttalam rout have also joined the strike later, and the victims are receiving treatment at Chilaw hospital.
