Cabinet approves to cover 80% of cigarette packs warnings
The Cabinet yesterday sanctioned legislation to make it obligatory for cigarette companies to cover the 80% of outer surface of cigarette packets with pictographic or visual warnings against the danger of smoking.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Cabinet members met the Presdient Maithripala Sirisena last evening to discuss in this regard. Under the 100 days program of President Maithripala Sirisena, the government anticipates to enforce the law within this stipulated time period.
At present, only 40 % of space is covered with such warnings.
