The protest which was staged by a group of estate workers blocking the Upcountry railway line has concluded by now.

According to our correspondent, the train services along Thalawa-kele – Poodalu-Oya line and Upcountry line have also resumed.

It was reported yesterday that a suspect has plunged into Kotmale Reservoir during the arrest, which instigated the residents of the area to block the railway line and stage a protest.

The correspondent also reported that police used tear gas to disperse the protestors this evening.

However, in response, the protestors have pelted stones towards the police.

Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told our news team that the police did not use tear gas to disperse the protestors.
