Method of elephant raid change until a policy is formulated
Tourism and Sports Deputy Minister Wasantha Senanayake has stated that remedial action would be taken swiftly after scrutinizing the difficulties faced by the owners of tame elephants.
The Minister stated this when he had a discussion with the owners of tame elephants yesterday.
The members of Tame Elephants Owners Association led by the Convener of the national movement to protect tame elephants Magalkande Sudaththa Thera educated the Chief Prelates of the difficulties faced by tame elephant owners.
The Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera has told the members of Tame Elephants Owners Association that all should draw their attention towards the ongoing elephant racket.
The Convener of the national movement to protect tame elephants Magal-kande Sudaththa Thera stated that he would bring elephants to the street and stage a protest if the problem is not solved.
The Thera also said that the proposed protest was halted after Tourism and Sports Deputy Minister Wasantha Senanayake promised to find a solution to the problem.
