The Gampola police used a couple of decoys to arrest the suspect who attempted to sell his 4-year old nephew for a sum of Rs.20,000.

Investigation revealed that the 26-yearl old suspect of Dolosbaage in Gampola had earlier sold another child of the same brother who was 2-years old for a sum of Rs.5,000 to an unknown person in Kurunegala.

Investigation also revealed the mother of the 2 children has passed away some time ago, and their father has put the two children under the care of the suspect.

Police said the suspect would be produced before the Magistrate tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the 4-year old child who was admitted to the hospital after being assaulted by his mother is recovering.

The mother of this child committed suicide by hanging after committing the crime this morning.

According to reports, the mother has committed the crime due to a marital dispute.

Another small child who witnessed the horrible scene by his mother had fled the scene.

However it was reported that the father is staying near the injured child at Wathupitiwala hospital.
