Update: CID grills Gotabaya Rajapakse
A team of CID sleuths today obtained a statement from former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the detectives who visited Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s residence, questioned him about the Avant Garde Private Security firm before obtaining the statement.
It is reported that the former Defence Secretary would be questioned again on Rakna Lanka Security Service as well.
Avant Garde Security firm and Rakna Lanka security firm became the talk of the town recently after caches of firearm were found from several armories belonging to the two private security firms.
Earlier police seized 3 thousand 154 firearms and 747 thousand 859 live bullets of different range from the vessel ‘Mahanuwara’ that had been docked in Galle Port by Avant Garde security firm.
Later Colombo Chief Magistrate banned Avant Garde Company Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi from leaving the country until the investigations in connection with this matter are completed.
cting on a complaint made by a Sri Jayewardenepura Municipal Councilor, police found another armory belonged to Rakna Lanka Security firm operated in the BMICH premises.
During the raid, police seized 44 T-56 guns, 32 LMG guns and another 151 guns of different range.
However police said that the Defence Ministry had permitted the operators to hoard 2300 T-56 firearms, 385 LMG guns and 3 thousand 473 guns of different varieties in this armory.
The person in charge of the Rakna Lanka armory at the BMICH told the police at the time of the raid, that the missing firearms had been issued for various security tasks.
Later due to the leakage of the firearms and the live bullets, police initiated investigations.

CID Grills Gotabaya Rajapakse
Ex-Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse was subjected to an intense interrogation by several experienced Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detectives today (13).
Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse has been questioned at his residence, the Governments Senior Media Spokesperson stated.
The CID had recorded the statement from Mr. Gotabaya about the Rakhna Lanka Private Security Company and Awan Guard Security Company.
