Shashee Weerawansa arrested on suspicion in connection with obtaining an improper diplomatic passport by submitting false information to the Immigration and Emigration Department and preparing bogus documents was remanded till tomorrow.

The Kaduwela Magistrate issued the above order after he arrived last afternoon at the private hospital in Malabe where Shashee Weerawansa was receiving treatment.

The police media spokesman said that she was still at the said private hospital under prison protection.

Sashi Weerawansa who was arrested in connection with the preparation of forged documents and obtaining a passport in a fraudulent manner was banned from leaving the country by Colombo chief magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday.

The CID informed the Court quoting former Immigration and Emigration Controller Chulananda Perera that the said passport was issued to Sashi Weerawansa on a written request signed and produced by then minister Wimal Weerawansa.

Ranasinghe Randunu Mudiyanselage Sirja Udayanthi alias Sashi Weerawansa was arrested day before yesterday for possessing a diplomatic passport prepared on forged documents.

She was arrested by police while she is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Malabe.

CID also informed the court that the suspect has planned to flee the country, and requested the court to impound her passport.

Addressing the media in Anuradhapura yesterday, Police Media Spokesman said the suspect has used two dates of birth and even the related documents compiled at the Persons Registration Department have gone missing.

Shashi Weerawansa Remanded


Former Minister and Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa, who was earlier arrested on charges of obtaining a diplomatic passport by producing fraudulent documents was remanded till February 25th, the Police stated.


Kaduwela Magistrate Court issued the order to remand her after visiting the hospital in which Shashi Weerawansa was hospitalized.


Addressing the media today, Police Media Spokesman said the suspect has used two dates of birth and even the related documents compiled at the Persons Registration Department have gone missing.

Shashi’s DoB related documents missing at DPR

Sashi Weerawansa who was arrested in connection with the preparation of forged documents and obtaining a passport in a fraudulent manner was banned from leaving the country by Colombo chief magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.

The CID informed the court that the Judicial Medical Officer has orally informed the CID that the suspect should receive treatment at a hospital therefore requested the Court to remand Sashi Weerawansa until March 2nd.

Later the Colombo Chief Magistrate asked the CID to take the suspect again to the Judicial Medical Officer and obtain a written report from him whether the suspect has any ailment that requires indoor treatment.

The Magistrate later ordered the CID to produce the suspect before Court if the Judicial Medical Officer did not recommend such inhouse treatment.

Meanwhile Wimal Weerawansa who reported to the CID in connection with a complaint made against him in 2011 explained the media about the embarrassments that faced by his family.

Wimal's Wife Arrested

Authorities have arrested Ex-Minister and Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa's wife over a complaint that she had procured a passport submitting forged documents including a false birth certificate.

Leader of National Freedom Front (NFF) Wimal Weerawansa has been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this morning to record a statement with regard to a complaint made against him and his wife.
