A group of Gampaha District Local Government heads said that with the backing of their supporters, they would take strict action if Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga is removed from his position.

This decision was taken during a meeting by heads of 15 local government institutions out of 19 in the Gampaha district held at the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha today.

Joining Hiru TV Paththare Visthare program this morning, Western Provincial Council chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that a group of SLFP and another group of UNP PC members are busy working together to remove him from his current post.

However UNP Opposition Leader Manju Sri Arangala said the current Chief Minister has no majority within the Council.

However the local government heads that joined the media conference held at Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha questioned the reason to oust the WPC Chief Minister.

Chairmen of Divulapitiya, Kelaniya, Wattala, Minuwangoda, Dompe, Biyagama, Mirigama, Mahara, Attanagalla, Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabhas, and Mabole, Katunayake, Seeduwa Ja-ela and Peliyagoda Urban Councils participated in this meeting.
