Government medical officers have decided to stage an island wide strike demanding for the protection of National Wage Policy and a solution to their salary issues.
While addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, the Deputy Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Navin de Soyza stated that they will commence the strike on the 6th of this month.
According to the deputy secretary, the previous talks held with the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance did not conclude successfully.
He further stated that, the medical officers have not received the 15 thousand rupees allowance increment, which was allocated through the previous budget
However, based on these factors, Dr. Navin de Soyza stated that they intend to stage the strike on the 6th of this month from 8am onwards.
Meanwhile, the Joint Federation of Paramedical Services stated that they will also stage a trade union action, if the allowance increment is given only to the Government Medical officers and not other professions.
