Manpower workers of 6 government institutions stage a protest in Colombo

Heavy traffic jams on several roads were reported around Colombo Fort today as two protests were staged based on several demands at Fort Railway Station.

Police Media Spokesman said that traffic came to a standstill for around 3 hours in the city surroundings including Fort, Pettah, Panchikawatta, Maradana and Ward Place.

Manpower workers of several government affiliated institutions including CEB, Water Board, Telecom, Port Authority and the Airport commenced the protest in front of the Fort Railway Station.

Later they marched along the Lotus Road and handed over a petition to the Presidential Secretariat.

Later Police were compelled to close Lotus Road towards Galle Face Green for 3 hours due to the protest march.

Traffic jamming was reported along Olcott Mawatha in Fort outside the Fort Railway Station due to a demonstration march launched by several groups demanding to make manpower employees in government institutions permanent.
