The former President Mahinda Rajapaksa rejects certain media reports which stated that the building under construction in Kankasanturai is not a presidential mansion meant for his use.
In a communiqué, former President Rajapaksa stated that there was a presidential mansion inside Jaffna Fort until the LTTE destroyed the building in 1980s.
He pointed out that the presidential mansion inside Jaffna Fort has not been rebuilt.
His statement further stated that the building under construction in Kankasanturai is an international Coordination Center which will be operating under the purview of Presidential Secretariat.
Former President Rajapaksa also stated in his communiqué that the buildings under construction in Kankasanturai as well as in Arugam Bay were meant for the use of foreign state leaders and other local and foreign delegates whenever they visit the Northern and the Eastern provinces.
He also stated that the Cabinet approval was obtained for constructing these buildings.
The former President stated that similar publicity was given to several other construction sites in the recent past, as a part of an insult campaign which portrayed them as a waste of public funds.
