US says that Sri Lanka should assure its readiness to implement the agreement it entered with the UN Human Rights Council.
The U.S. representatives told the UNHRC yesterday that they are concerned about the measures taken by Sri Lanka to safeguard human rights, reconciliation and accountability.
The American representatives also anticipated the investigation report with regard to Sri Lanka would be presented to the UNHRC sessions to be held in Geneva next September.
America also commended the actions taken by the UN Human Rights Commissioner with regard to Sri Lanka.
The U.S. representatives said that the Human Rights Chief’s action to work in collaboration with Sri Lanka would bear fruit and they endorsed the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s action to postpone the release of the report on Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile European Union has also endorsed the postponement of the release of the UN Human Rights Commission report with regard to Sri Lanka.
The EU also anticipates seeing Sri Lanka would progress according to the pledges it made. EU officials reiterated during the UNHRC sessions that it was ready to assist Sri Lanka in that regard.
