The Appeal Court rejected today the petition submitted by General Sarath Fonseka to reinstate him as a member of parliament.

The petition was considered before Appeal Court Chairman Justice Wijith Malalgoda and Justice H.C. A. Madawala.

General Sarath Fonseka, in his petition, appealed to the Court to issue an injunction on Jayantha Ketagoda preventing him from attending parliament until the case against him is heard.

Having rejected the appeal by General Fonseka, the Court adjourned the case until May 12th.

The Appeal Court also informed the respondent party including MP Jayantha Ketagoda to submit objections if any before 27th of this month.

Meanwhile General Sarath Fonseka and his Secretary Senaka Silva were acquitted from all charges in the case against them which they had been accused of treason including harboring 10 army soldiers.

Before the verdict was given, Colombo High Court Judge Devika Tennakoon said that the Attorney General failed to prove with evidence the charges made against the respondents.

Accordingly the Judge removed the existing travel ban on the respondents.

The Attorney General had indicted General Sarath Fonseka and Senaka Silva on 41 charges including treason and harboring 10 army deserters by providing them with salary and accommodation during the presidential election in 2010.
