Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and 3 others have been banned from leaving the country with immediate effect in connection with the Avant Garde floating armory incident.

The travel ban has been imposed on the four after the CID obtained a ruling from the Galle Magistrate Court.

In addition to former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, former Navy Commander Somathilaka Dissanayake, Avant Garde Director Kithsiri Manjula Kumara and Rakna Lanka Director Major General Egodawela have also been banned from leaving the country.

Avant Garde and Rakna Lanka companies became controversial topics in the past days after armories belonging to the two companies were found.

3 thousand 154 firearms and 748 thousand 859 bullets of different make were  found in vessel “Mahanuwara” while it was docked in Galle Port by Avant Garde Private Security firm.

Meanwhile the Colombo Magistrate rejected today a motion submitted by CID to prevent a member of Avant Garde director board Nissanka Senadhipathi.

When the case was taken before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya stated that issuing an injunction against a non-suspect could be confusing.

Therefore the Magistrate told CID to inform the Court before March 12, whether Senadhipathi is a suspect in this case.
