Political party leaders have agreed on an election system reflecting a mix of both the proportional and first-past-the-post systems.

Many political party leaders including Opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, Ministers Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Rishaard Badiudeen, MPs G. L. Peiris, Vijitha Herath, Dinesh Gunawardhana, R. Sambandan, Douglas Devananda, Thiss Vitarana and Dew Gunaskera and Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya participated in the discussion.

On this occasion Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that at least three months would be required for amending the current election system.
