The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which recommends several constitutional changes including the pruning of the powers of the Executive Presidency, was tabled in Parliament by Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesinghe today.

The first parliamentary meeting after the formation of a national Government with 26 SLFP ministers accepting ministries in the Government will be held at 1 p.m. today.

Meanwhile the draft 19th amendment to the constitution Act is scheduled to be presented in parliament today.

A senior Government spokesman said that the draft amendment Act has received cabinet nod.

The draft 19th amendment to the constitution Act containing amendments including removal of certain executive presidency powers was gazetted on the 16th of this month.
