Update: Proposal to form a new political party before former President Mahinda Rajapaksa
The former President Mahinda Rajapaksa held discussions with the Bhikkus for Peace and Justice and a group of artistes at the Abhayaramaya in Narahenpita this morning.
Over 500 Bhikkus representing all districts were present at the first meeting with the former President.
The president of the organization is chief incumbent of Abhayaramaya Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera.
The discussions were centered on obtaining an early election and for making the former president the UPFA prime ministerial candidate.
The monks insisted on forming a new political party and fielding former President Rajapaksa as the prime ministerial candidate, unless SLFP nominates him.
Later the former president engaged in discussion with a group of artistes.
While leaving Abhayaaramaya premises, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa responded to the questions raised by the media.
He accepted that they had faults and also stated that those days people complained that there are more cabinet ministers, but now they complain that there are more Executive Presidents.

Bhikkus want MR to be UPFA PM candidate
The former President Mahinda Rajapaksa held a discussion with the Maha Sangha at the Abhayaramaya in Narahenpita this morning.
Our correspondent stated that over 500 Bhikkus representing all districts were present at the meeting.
The participating Bhikkus have formed a separate organization under the name of Bhikkus for Peace and Justice intending to demand an early general election and make former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the UPFA prime ministerial candidate.
