International investigation to probe former Sri Lankan ambassador in Russia Udayanga Weerathunga
Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Ajith P. Perera stated that an international level investigation committee will be appointed to probe the allegations for supplying arms to a Ukraine guerilla group by Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga.
Addressing a media conference held at the Foreign Ministry, the deputy minister stated that the relevant committee would be appointed following the China tour of Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
Earlier, the Ukraine Foreign Ministry had informed the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry that Udayanga Weeratunga, who is a relative of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had supplied arms to a guerilla group operating in Ukraine.
The Deputy Foreign Minister stated that the investigation would be conducted following the complaint made by the Ukraine Foreign Ministry.
