The United States President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate the current Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Atul Keshap for Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Keshap, a career member of the Foreign Service, currently serves as the deputy to Nisha Desai Biswal, Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the Department of State.

Previously, he served at the Department of State as a U.S. Senior Official for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 2012 to 2013.
