On the 2nd day of his Northern tour, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met principals of schools in the Jaffna district today.

Principals and Northern Provincial Educational Officers of Jaffna participated in the meeting which was held at Jaffna District Secretariat.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister introduced a new approach to develop education in the Northern Province.

Accordingly Mullativu, Kilinochchi and Welioya will be named as Special Educational Zones.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe added that the relevant cabinet paper will be presented in the near future.

The Premier also expressed his views regarding a program to analyze the progress of Northern provincial schools.

He stated that certain schools in Jaffna which experienced a civil war for 30 years, have shown a significant progress.

In addition certain schools have not paid attention on development under the pretext of war.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that he is aware of this situation and promised to offer all facilities to develop schools in Jaffna District.

However, he emphasized that the principals who are unable to show any progress within the given 6 months will be transferred.
