Vice Chancellor of Colombo University goes on leave; Acting Vice Chancellor appointed

Professor Lalitha Mendis of the Colombo University has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University with effect from tomorrow.

The University Grants Commission has given approval for the appointment.

Chairman of the UGC Professor Mohan De Silva stated that Dr. W. Kumara Hirimburegama who was the Vice Chancellor had obtained leave and his leave application was approved.

Protests erupted in the recent past against Vice Chancellor Dr. W. Kumara Hirimburegama with the participation of University Teachers calling for him to step down especially with the allegations that there were more suitable Teachers to function in the position.
