Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said that she does not wish to speak on certain media reports speculating that her son Vimukthi Kumaratunga is preparing to enter politics.

The former President made these remarks during an interview with ‘The Hindu’ newspaper concerning the current political development in Sri Lanka.

Former President Kumaratunga told the Hindu that she is ready to offer her maximum support for the country’s reconciliation efforts, but ruled out that she has no intention of returning to electoral politics.

She added that if proper measures are not taken for reconciliation, the current government’s efforts to promote national unity in Sri Lanka will collapse.

The assistance given by India in connection with reconciliation in the country was also applauded during her interview.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunga also stated that unlike the previous regime, the new government is taking measures to further establish good relations with India.
