Stranded Sri Lankans in Yemen evacuated by a Chinese vessel

The Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that 40 Sri Lankans who were stranded in Yemen due to ongoing fighting would be taken to a nearby African country Djibouti.

Addressing a media conference, Acting Foreign Affairs minister Ajith P Perera said this afternoon that the 40 Sri Lankans were transported from Yemen’s capital Sanaa to Hodeida Port yesterday.

He further said that immediate steps would be taken to bring these stranded Sri Lankans to the island as soon as possible.

Meanwhile the Foreign Ministry stated that another 5 Sri Lankans returned to the island from Yemen this morning.

Accordingly, 13 Sri Lankans out of 83 stranded in Yemen have so far returned home.
