A UPFA member of the Panadura Urban Council and two of its administrative officers were hospitalized after a clash that took place during its sessions today.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that two persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

The UPFA which control the Panadura Urban Council has organized a meeting today to come to an agreement in order to remove its Secretary.

Panadura Urban Council Chairman Rienzi Fernando told our news team that the council wanted to remove the Secretary as she did not take disciplinary action against a council worker.

He also said a group of persons forcefully entered the meeting room at the last stage of the meeting and launched an assault.

Fernando said that they have requested police protection beforehand.

Panadura Urban Councilor Mahesh Fernando who received injuries during the clash has been admitted to Nagoda hospital while the two administrative officers were admitted to Panadura hospital.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that two administrative officers of the same urban council have been arrested already in connection with the incident.

A tense situation reported at the Panadura Urban Council (UC) on Wednesday (8) when a clash broke out between Urban Councillors and several administrative officers, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated.

The tense situation flared up over the removal of a female secretary attached to the Panadura Urban Council, the Police stated.
