Government has restored democracy - PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the current government has restored democracy within the country.

Contributing an article to the Japan Times newspaper, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that a conducive environment has been created for all people to live in harmony within the country irrespective of their religious, racial or other differences.

He also stated that a free atmosphere has been created instead of the previous authoritarian system for all citizens to express their opinion.

He stated that a new social system has been emerging where qualification and skills are recognized when providing economic opportunities.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe further stated in his article to the Japan Times that his government would hold a General Election in the near future in order to further strengthen democracy within the country.
